About
Tower of God is a manga webcomic created by Lee Hong-jui, aka SIU (Slave. In. Utero.), and published by Naver. It follows a boy named Twenty-Fifth Bam, who has spent his life beneath a mysterious tower. After chasing his friend into the tower, he must ascend the tower, with each level providing a new challenge.
History
The first chapter of Tower of God was published on July 5th, 2010[1] and has run for 277 chapters as of December 1st, 2017. The story follows Twenty-Fifth Bam in his journey through the mysterious tower, which is covered in a magical substance called Shinsu which allows levels of the tower to appear in various shapes and arenas. On each level, Twenty-Fifth Bam battles with other characters in various positions: fisherman, spear-bearer, light-bearer, scout, and wave-controller.
In 2013, Naver released a mobile role-playing game based on the series.
Anime Adaptation
On February 6, 2020, Crunchyroll announced an adapatation of the Tower of God comic into a spring 2020 anime, along with a teaser image[7](shown below).
On February 25th, Crunchyroll published its first trailer for the series(shown below). As of April 2020, the trailer has crossed 1.1 million views, with positive reception from the anime community, with 48,000 upvotes to 334 downvotes.
On April 1st, the first episode of the anime premiered. The episode was well received by audiences, reaching a 5 star average with 10635 ratings on the site.[6] As of this latest edit the series has an average of 8.3 on IMDB and 7.96 on MyAnimeList[7][8].
Fandom
The webtoon has grown very popular and has been translated into Japanese and English by Naver.[2] According to Tom Akel, head of Line Webtoon, the site that hosts the series, the series' installments are read by five million people. The webtoon's subreddit, /r/towerofgod, has over 10,000 readers.[3] The series also has a large amount of fan art posted to DeviantArt[4] (examples shown below).
