Super Idol Becoming Canny / Uncanny refers to a series of memes based on the Mr. Incredible Becoming Canny / Uncanny format where Tian Yiming of Super Idol fame becomes increasingly happy or uncanny in reaction to a series of images or content relating to a given topic. The format was posted to TikTok and YouTube in late February 2022, inspiring variations on the latter over the course of March.

Origin

On February 24th, 2022, YouTuber^[1] Gonaimator Blood and Iron posted a video taken from now-deleted TikToker @kdh_remix where Douyin user Zmcmtianyiming, or Tian Yiming, best known for the Super Idol meme, becomes increasingly happy as his song plays (shown below).

A version of the video where Zmcmtianyiming becomes increasingly uncanny was reuploaded to TikTok^[2] from the same deleted TikToker in early March (shown below).

Spread

On February 28th, 2022, YouTuber^[3] jonahpedro uploaded a new version of the canny template as a short. On the same date, YouTuber^[4] TRULYlancez posted a meme using the template about when your mom buys you a motorized vehicle. On March 2nd, YouTuber Just A Sad Troll uploaded a clean version of each format, gaining over 227,000 views and 155,000 views respectively in six days (shown below, left and right).

On March 3rd, the same YouTuber uploaded two versions of the meme where Super Idol becomes canny, gaining over 40,000 and 148,000 views respectively in five days (shown below, left and right).

On March 7th, YouTuber Mr Memecredible posted a version of the meme where Super Idol becomes canny to a variety of zombie apocalypse weapons, gaining over 484,000 views in a day (shown below).
