About

Table-Kun is a nickname given to a table from the anime series Code Geass, the corner of which is used by the character Nina to masturbate as she looks at a photograph of Euphemia. The scene appears in episode 12 of the series, and awarded the table the nickname "table-kun" as people began shipping the two characters, often referring to Nina as "Table-chan" or "Table girl." Desk-Kun is a similar nickname for the desk in Hololive streams, often abused by the streamers. Although the two are not directly related, jokes about the table or desk being abused are common in both circles, and "table-kun" is sometimes used interchangeably for "desk-kun."

Origin

In a scene from season one, episode 12 of Code Geass,[1] the character Nina is seen in a full silhouette violently rocking back and forth as an image of the character Euphemia sits on the table. Nunnally then comes in the room and asks if everything is okay, where it is implied that Nina masturbated with the corner of the table to Euphemia's photo. The episode aired on January 5th, 2007. One of the earliest uploads of the clip was to YouTube[2] on March 2nd of that year titled "Nina do something in darkness," garnering over 600,000 views in 14 years (shown below).

The scene inspired controversy among viewers, with many seeing it as unnecessary. People soon began making memes and fan art about the relationship between Nina and the table. One of the earliest memes about the scene was posted to DeviantArt[3] on April 30th, 2008, by Breepants (shown below).

It's not you...it's me. I've fallen in love with someone We can still be friends, right? else.

The table gained the nickname "Table-kun" as early as 2008, although the exact source of the nickname is unknown. One of the earliest posts using the name was made in the Crunchyroll[4] group "Nina must Die" by bzyku92 on June 16th, 2008, where it is used many times to make fun of her in a post hating on Nina and wishing she would die, mostly for being racist against the Japanese (shown below).

NOTE: She's killed over 25 million people with the weapon FLEIA and no one has killed her. And if she's so guilty, why hasnt she killed herself!? XD Please let her die before the series' end! "prays* She killed someone called Jesus! Thats a sign! xD COME ALL NINA HATERS AND UNITE!!! Anyone who believes that Nina from Code Geass deserves to die, we welcome you to join and invite others too 8D meet others who express the same amount of hate for Nina as you do xD * Yay! 300+ Members! "Has an urge to say "This is Sparta!" XD", Thanks to everyone who has joined "Nina Must Die" Club so far 8D* This is Nina Einstein GO Nina Einstein is currently a Nuclear Scientist now working under Schneizel the 2nd son of the Emperor, Charles Di Britannia. Nina Einstein (=-†:34%723117, Nina Ainshutain?) was introduced as a bookish member of the student council at Ashford Academy. Nina demonstrates an acute xenophobic reaction to Elevens and is initially intimidated by Suzaku when he arrives in the school. She develops an obsessive crush on the Third Princess Euphemia [Table-kun xD] after the latter helps her during a traumatizing hosiage incident at the Lake Kawaguchi Convention Center Hotel. She subsequently comes to rely on Euphemia for emotional support. Lloyd Asplund is interested in Nina's personal research regarding the possibility of using Uranium-235 as a fuel, even providing her with some sakuradite to further her research. Following Euphemia's death, Nina becomes emotionally and mentally unstable. In a misguided attempt to kill Zero and avenge the princess, she arms the Ashford's Ganymede Knightmare Frame with a prototype nuclear reactor, intending to detonate it and take out all of Tokyo. Ii fails to explode, thus leading us to where she is now! so00 In summary of why Nina is hated. She is a nerdy scary lesbian, an ugly crazy bitch, she hates Zero, table humper (Probably still does even now) and is a total racist (e.g. Japanese).

Spread

Jokes about Table-kun and table-chan, a nickname given to Nina, spread over the course of the following months and years. On July 31st, 2008, a member of MyAnimeList[5] made a forum post about the scene. On September 28th, ProtoBlues posted a fanfiction to FanFiction.net[6] about the incident in which Table-Kun recounts being raped by Nina (sample shown below).

He remembers every vivid detail. The way she gripped his edge, so harshly and painfully. But no pain, no torture could compare to that moment... That moment when she neared his corner and...and...did it. The feeling of the...liquid on his corner, slowly sliding down his leg still remains with him (why the hell did God make that stuff so viscous?). Fortunately enough, he has since had that corner amputated by a student participating in Milly's "Build-A-Table Workshop" contest. Apparently, the contest had caused a nation-wide shortage of wood with the way Milly threw around the other council members' first kisses. Joke was on that table, though. That would teach the jerk to amputate him (not that he wasn't grateful at the same time).

The joke continued to prove popular among Code Geass fans over the following years, still being referenced over a decade later in memes (examples from Reddit,[8][9] 2018, shown below).

I fear no man. But that thing.. it scares me.

While the table masturbation was odd, I'm sure she was particularly hated by the fanbase because she was racist towards the Japanese. Even though in-lore, you're lead to believe that the majority of Britannians are like her. It took me a long time to even realize that there was racism in this anime because whites and Asians are indistinguishable from one another in this art style
