The promo was released in December 2018 and became the subject of memes throughout the 2020s, including as a reaction video.

Origin

On December 5th, 2018, the TV Promos YouTube^[1] channel posted a promo for Riverdale season three, episode eight, which was the next upcoming episode of the show. In the promo, a scene where students at Riverdale High School experience a mass seizure is shown. The overhead narrator says, "There was a mass seizure at school." The video gained over 500,000 views in eight years.

In the context of the show, the students experience mass seizures after the water supply is spiked with a bad batch of a drug funded by Hiram Lodge, the character Veronica Lodge's dad and one of the show's primary antagonists.^[2]

Spread

The Riverdale clip spread online throughout the 2020s as the subject of reactions and memes.

On December 28th, 2021, X^[3] user @topazgotjuice posted it, writing, "last one I swear but when this promo dropped… I never laughed so hard in my life."

On December 20th, 2023, X^[4] user @vancssasbeckett shared the clip, writing, "how did this mass seizure at school even happen," gaining over 2,000 likes in three years.

On January 26th, 2026, X^[5] user @dykemedla posted the clip, gaining over 20,000 likes in a month.

On February 26th, X^[6] user @boysaliarpt3 posted the clip along with a caption about the release of new music from the artists Underscores and Slayyyter, using the video as a reaction to share their excitement, garnering over 1,300 likes in a day.

Later that day, X^[7] user @wfl0wrz quoted the post, writing, "accidentally played this video while in vc and it picked up on my mic and everyone started losing it," garnering over 2,300 likes in under a day.
