"The Oyster Girl" TikToker Equanaaa, also known as TikTok Woman Who Ate 48 Oysters, refers to drama and discourse surrounding a video posted by TikToker @equanaaa (EquanaB) in October 2023, in which she documented a date at Fontaine's Oyster Bar in Atlanta, Georgia with a man who ran out on the tab because she ordered 48 oysters (four orders), multiple drinks and a plate of crab cakes. Equanaaa's video drew criticism from many on TikTok and Twitter / X after its upload and virality, resulting in the nickname "The Oyster Girl." Many debated whether she was in the right or wrong, or more generally, reacted to the clip that was objectively strange and hilarious.
Origin
On October 11th, 2023, TikToker[1] @equanaaa posted a video in which she went to Fontaine's Oyster Bar in Atlanta, Georgia with a male date who she was seemingly not interested in. In the video, @equanaaa ordered four orders of oysters (48 oysters), plus drinks, plus a fifth plate of crab cakes. At the end of the video, @equanaaa revealed that her date had left her with the tab to which she expressed distaste. Over the course of two days, the video gained roughly 1.4 million plays and 98,900 likes (shown below).

Soon after the video's upload, on October 11th, 2023, it spread via a repost on X[2] posted by user @MotorCityVIXEN who captioned it, "I’m watching this irritated because she was exposing my favorite oyster spot in Atlanta but this wayyyy too funny not to share 😭😭😭😭😭," gaining roughly 26.1 million views and 48,100 likes in two days (shown below).

The repost inspired countless reactions and memes in the days that followed, surfacing in the replies and quote retweets. For instance, on October 11th, 2023, X[3] user @kellboogie_ referenced a scene from the comedy film White Chicks in a reply that gained roughly 7,100 likes in two days (shown below, left). Also on October 11th, X[4] user @desdollas quoted the post, writing, "I wanna take her side so badly but I cannot get past the 48 oysters😭," gaining roughly 30,500 likes in two days (shown below, right).
Due to the virality on X, discourse and reactions circled back to TikTok, manifesting in stitches and duets of the original video. For instance, on October 12th, 2023, TikToker[5] @whomamagonecheckme2 posted a video in which she defended "Oyster Girl" saying that she was a "prime example" of "don't let somebody tell you they don't wanna be with you more than once," receiving roughly 661,900 plays and 92,100 likes in one day (shown below).
