Humongous Sword Guy refers to a viral photoshop of a Guts cosplayer in which he is given an impossibly large sword. The photoshop went viral on X / Twitter in early November 2024, inspiring a redraw trend in which the man cosplaying Guts and his sword are replaced with other pop culture characters.

Origin

On November 1st, 2024, Redditor No_Cobbler_2176 posted a photograph of his cosplay of the character Guts from the manga and anime series Berserk, depicting him standing on the street with a heavy greatsword resting on his shoulder. The post (shown below) received over 5,200 upvotes in the /r/Berserk^[1] subreddit in nine days.

Later on November 1st, Redditor infinitemortis posted a humorous photoshop of the photograph, dramatically increasing the size of the sword. The edit (shown below) garnered over 3,500 upvotes in the /r/berserklejerk^[2] subreddit in nine days.

On November 5th, 2024, X^[3] / Twitter account @eternalclassic_ reposted the image, with the post garnering over 16.1 million views, 35,000 reposts and 419,000 likes in five days.

On the same day, the X^[4] account @berserksouls quoted the post with a joke referencing soulslike. The post (shown below) received over 1,800 reposts and 30,000 likes in four days.

Starting on November 6th, 2024, artists on X / Twitter shared fan art, including redraws, based on the edited photograph, giving various characters weapons and other objects of enormous size.

For example, on that day, X^[5] user @wersman2 posted a fan art based on the image that received over 4,200 reposts and 64,000 likes in four days (shown below).

On November 7th, 2024, X^[6] user @sechihyeo posted a Blue Archive redraw of the image depicting the character Tendou Alice wielding an enormous railgun. The post (shown below) received over 6,800 reposts and 51,000 likes in three days (shown below).
