It comes from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the episode "Worst Bar in Philly", where the following dialogue is exchanged:
"Please, let me out! I have to get home! I have a cat!"
"Sir, we all have cats that we'd like to be playing with right now, okay? We're doing our very best."
Spread
It has morphed into a snowclone, typical with the phrase, "We all have X that we'd rather be [playing] with right now, okay? We're doing our very best."
