In December 2022, Blake posted a video to TikTok[10] responding to accusations of cultural appropriation due to her dreadlocks. In the video, she supports the idea that dreadlocks aren't cultural appropriation because many cultures wear them, not just Black and indigenous people. In the video's caption, she also explains that she is part Native American (shown below).
@shaninblake999 For the people in the back. Iβm Native American and Hispanic and Irish, I grew up in a family that speaks fluent Spanish, visiting my relatives in Mexico often and eating homemade tacos. I grew up doing plant medicine, burning sage, doing sweat lodges in tipis and connecting with my ancestors as a part of my culture. My great great grandfather was a famous Cherokee chief, so please stop telling people what their βraceβ is and what they can and canβt do. You are unaware that this is offensive. If someone has light skin it doesnβt mean they are βwhite Europeanβ. As well as dreadlocks theyβve been worn by every culture, it is not cultural appropriation even if you are just white, you can have dreads and burn sage. So please do your research and ask people what their ethnicity is, instead of being so rude and disrespectful, itβs offensive when you say those hateful things to me and other people. You are the one who is culturally appropriating.
"Energy Vampires" / August 2023 Cultural Appropriation Accusations

In the video, she points out the dreamcatcher in Blake's car and the way Blake says a native Hawaiian phrase in the song (shown below, right).
