When You Give X The Aux Cord refers to a snowclone template based on the thumbnail image for a comedy video titled "when you give a white person the aux cord." The phrase "a white person" is replaced using Photoshop with another type of person and music fitting that person is placed overtop, the image also altered. The original comedy skit was uploaded to Instagram in July 2017 and inspired memes over the following years.
Origin
On July 20th, 2017, Instagram[1] user youloverichard posted a skit collaborating with Instagram user fatandpaid titled "WHEN YOU GIVE A WHITE PERSON THE AUX CORD." In the skit, a white person (youloverichard) plays and vibes to a song through the AUX cord that features racist lyrics as the Black man (fatandpaid) looks at him in shock, gaining over 294,000 views in five years (shown below).
The next day, the same Instagram[2] user posted a sequel to the video using the reverse perspective of the joke titled "WHEN YOU GIVE A BLACK PERSON THE AUX CORD," gaining over 362,000 views in a similar span of time (shown below).

On April 29th, 2018, Instagram[3] user TonyZaret posted a parody of the video where his girlfriend plays harp music over the AUX, gaining over 21,000 views in four years (shown below).
On December 4th, 2019, Instagram[4] user diogenessbarrel posted a photoshop of the "when you give a Black person the AUX cord" video's thumbnail replacing fatandpaid with a photo of an ancient Greek philosopher's statue captioned "when you give a blind Greek beggar the AUX cord," adding a Greek-sounding song in the background, gaining over 4,700 views in two years (shown below).
On December 21st, Instagram[5] user swink_swonk posted a version of the meme where X is "a Sumerian person" (shown below, left). On January 10th, 2021, Instagram[6] user sadlukie posted a version where X is "a North Korean farmer" (shown below, right). The former was reposted to Instagram[7] in November 2021, gaining over 12,800 views in three months. The latter was reposted to Instagram[8] on December 30th of that year, gaining over 206,000 views in two months.
