Women Can Smell If a Guy Jacked Off refers to a viral hoax that women can smell it on a man if he recently engaged in masturbation. Spawned by a viral post in October 2022, the hoax has been reiterated by several viral posts, leading to some men questioning if the statement was true, as well as to various jokes and memes built on the statement.

Origin

On October 13th, 2022, X^[1] / Twitter user @SCHIZO_FREQ made a claim that women can smell it on a man if he has masturbated within the last week. The post (shown below) received over 5,000 reposts and 74,000 likes in three years.

As of 2025, no studies confirming the claim could be found.

Spread

On October 14th, 2022, the X^[2] gimmick account @BadMedicalTakes reposted the claim, with the post gaining over 580 reposts and 17,000 likes in three years. Later on October 14th, YouTuber Shoe0nHead quoted the post, saying that the claim was true. The post (shown below) received over 190 reposts and 6,600 likes on X^[3] in three years.

On January 24th, 2023, X^[4] user @UsingCigarettes made another post with the claim, writing that "all the guys start to cope by pretending it's a joke" whenever the claim is made. The since-deleted post received over 430 reposts and 7,800 likes (shown below).

On August 18th, 2023, an unknown Redditor made a post asking if the claim was true in the /r/NoStupidQuestions^[5] subreddit, where their post received over 2,900 upvotes in two years (shown below). On March 18th, 2024, another posted the original tweet in the /r/PeterExplainsTheJoke^[6] subreddit, with the post garnering over 15,000 upvotes in one year.

On January 22nd, 2025, X^[7] user @jackiecore666 claimed that after taking estrogen they gained the ability to detect the smell, with the post gaining over 1,300 reposts and 46,000 likes.

Following the post, the hoax again went viral on social media in late January 2025.
