Yamet Kudasi, not to be confused with various anime and hentai memes which use "Yamete Kudasai," refers to remixes of a song based on a misspelled Japanese sentence "Yamet Kudasai," (Eng: "Please stop"). Online, the song has been used in various remixes on TikTok.

Origin

On August 30th, 2021, TikTok[1] user @dewiismahoeriah uploaded a video featuring a woman singing "yamet kudasi" and "ara ara kimochi" repeatedly. The video received more than 8.3 million views in one month (shown below).

Spread

Over the following month, the sound was used by numerous TikTok users. For example, on September 5th, 2021, TikTok[2] user @putrautama_ uploaded a POV Roleplay meme depicting himself serving food for guests at a wedding. The video received more than 9.8 million views in three weeks (shown below, left). On September 15th, 2021, TikTok[3] user @yogadeden uploaded a stop motion video of him with his friends using a sarong, gaining 3.8 million views in two weeks (shown below, center). On September 22nd, 2021, TikTok[4] user @ibnuwardani uploaded video of himself slipping to the music. The video received more than 26.3 million views in one week (shown below, right).

The song also grew popular among YouTube users. For example on September 8th, 2021, YouTube[5] user EM FAESOL uploaded an edited clip from SpongeBob SquarePants in which Patrick Star reads a poem. The video received more than 600,000 views in three weeks (shown below, left). On September 22nd, 2021, YouTube[6] user KrizzGuy 2.0 uploaded an edited clip of SpongeBob SquarePants showing Mr. Krabs talking on the phone. The video received more than 64,000 views in one week (shown below, right).

On September 17th, 2021, Dewi Isma Hoeriah, the woman who sung the song in the video, appeared on Indonesian talkshow Brownis. The video uploaded by the YouTube[7] channel of Indonesian TV channel Trans TV received more than 133,000 views in two weeks (shown below).



Several Indonesian media outlets such as News Media[8], Diadona[9], and Salatiga Terkini[10] published an article about the song.
