AI 'South Park' Follows In Footsteps Of AI 'Seinfeld,' Goes Straight For Raunchy Humor
South Park has been tightly connected to the AI craze currently dominating the Web3 space, going so far as to release an episode in which ChatGPT is credited as a writer on an episode from the recent season.
As Trey Parker and Matt Stone have used AI to help create South Park episodes, AI is now generating South Park "episodes" on its own — though it's doubtful anyone will mistake the work of TikTok and YouTube channel @ai_southpark for the real thing any time soon.
The channel began posting three days ago with skits that roughly echo what may be South Park dialogue, complete with voice acting. It appears the "best" moments are reposted to TikTok, while streams of the project on YouTube can go for hours.
It seems like the way the project works is that the AI is fed a prompt (such as "eric starts a black market candy trading business in the schoolyard for Dogecoin"), then generates a conversation between the main South Park cast members surrounding the topic. The animation leaves a bit to be desired as it mostly renders the South Park boys waddling aimlessly in a circle while they have their conversation.
Some of the raunchier clips have since spread on social media in recent days. For example, one clip in which Butters drops a wildly out-of-pocket non-sequitur has spread widely on Twitter (shown below).

The project echoes Nothing, Forever, the AI-generated, 24-hour Seinfeld parody that garnered some interest months ago, particularly when some risqué topics got through.
South Park has a bit more leeway in that regard, considering the general R-rated language of the show, but it seems most of the clips AI South Park are going straight for the shock value and, perhaps unsurprisingly, foregoing the setups for jokes.
It will be interesting to see if AI South Park suffers the same fate as Nothing, Forever, which was banned from Twitch after its star "Larry" openly wondered about doing transphobic jokes.
AI South Park may not have to contend with Twitch's guidelines, but considering its source material, it seems probable that it will come up against either YouTube or TikTok's terms of service at some point.
