Rare is the game that's so good its creators actually don't want to make a sequel, but such is the case with Among Us, the hidden-role online multiplayer mystery game that has exploded in popularity in the last month.
In a blog post posted Wednesday by developers InnerSloth, the team announced they had decided to scrap plans for an Among Us 2, which was announced just a month ago, after the original game became the darling of the internet. They will instead focus on improving Among Us by adding features planned for the sequel over time.
"The main reason we are shooting for a sequel is because the codebase of Among Us 1 is so outdated and not built to support adding so much new content," wrote an InnerSloth developer by the moniker "PuffballsUnited." "However, seeing how many people are enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level."
Mr. Puffballs also outlined what the team is working on with their suddenly very successful game, including server issues, developing colorblind support, developing a friends/account system, and adding a new stage.
It's a savvy move on the part of the Among Us developers, as Among Us raced up the Steam charts to become the second-most popular game on the platform right now with 325,000 players. At the time they announced Among Us 2, the game only had 70,000 players.
As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, make it better.
