Blizzard's Troubled Rollout Of 'Overwatch 2' Continues After It Accidentally Locks Chunks Of The Roster

The oopsies just keep on coming for Blizzard and its disastrous rollout of Overwatch 2.
This week has seen numerous reports from players being unable to log into the game and encountering difficulty transferring data from the now-dead Overwatch 1 and general backlash to the prepaid phone requirement. The company is now putting out fires related to the characters Torbjörn and Bastion being severely broken and a bug that's locked out chunks of the roster for multiple players.
Bastion had an infinite ultimate that wreaked havoc on players during the game's launch week, while Torbjörn had an ability that could be used twice in succession. To solve this issue, Blizzard announced it would lock Bastion entirely and ban Torbjörn from ranked matches until the characters could be fixed.
This gave rise to a bug where huge chunks of the entire roster got locked for some players. According to reports from Kotaku, Doomfist, Sigma, Wrecking Ball, Ashe, Echo, Mei, Sombra, Symmetra, Torbjörn, Zenyatta, Kiriko, Baptiste and Brigitte were all suddenly locked for players. Others reported that as much as half the roster was locked.

At 10 P.M. EST last night, Blizzard said it was aware of the bug, saying it was due to an issue with their servers that tracked player progression. It's unclear if the bug was related to Blizzard pulling Bastion, but it did crop up at the same time. At the time of writing, some players say the bug is fixed, while others still report being unable to play some of their previously unlocked heroes.
While the Overwatch 2 rollout isn't quite at the disastrous levels of Fallout 76 or Cyberpunk 2077 yet, more issues like these could cause the game to join those infamous ranks.
