So long Fortnite: Save the World for Mac. We hardly knew ye.

Epic will be removing Fortnite: Save the World from the macOS App Store next week. According to a press release from the company, fans can blame Apple.

Due to the ongoing legal issues between Epic and Apple, Epic announced that they could not release patches and updates for Save the World. They're choosing to remove the game rather than allowing it to deteriorate in the App Store.

"Apple is preventing Epic from signing games and patches for distribution on Mac, which ends our ability to develop and offer Fortnite: Save the World for the platform," the release states. "Specifically, our upcoming v14.20 release will cause bugs for players on v13.40, resulting in a very poor experience. Since we are no longer able to sign updates and release fixes for these issues, beginning September 23, 2020, Fortnite: Save the World will no longer be playable on macOS."

Last month, Epic launched a war against Apple and the 30% cut the company takes for App Store sales. Hours before filing suit against Apple, Epic launched a proprietary payment system that circumvents Apple's cut and released a Fortnite commercial for their lawsuit that parodies Apple's iconic 1984 commercial. By removing the far-less popular title in their Fortnite library, Epic, once again, aims to galvanize their fans against the tech giant. The nine people who still play Save the World must be annoyed.

Epic says that there's no need for players to take action. They will receive refunds and "retain any previously purchased V-Bucks and items on your account." However, refunds may take up until October 2nd to process.

Battle Royale, the bread and butter of Epic's Fortnite business, remains available for download on the Mac. That's not without caveats, though. The company says Battle Royale remains playable but will "no longer receiving version updates due to Apple’s actions." Would they dare pull the plug on their flagship game? Only time will tell.
