Our long national nightmare is over. Joey, Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Pheobe, Monica and probably ugly naked guy are returning to television. The hit TV show Friends will be returning for a one-episode reunion special on HBO Max.

Over the weekend, in a surprise announcement on Instagram, Jennifer Aniston, the woman who popularized Rachel and "the Rachel," said those two magic words: "It's happening."

Details are slight, for now, but according to NBC, the special will feature six cast members, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry, and will launch with the HBO Max steaming service in May 2020.

However, those looking for a classic Friends-style romp in which will have to return to the other 236 episodes of the massively popular series. This exclusive special is "unscripted."

Could fans be anymore excited? Maybe, but they're still sharing their glee for the fab six's return on Twitter.

Last year, Friends caused yet another stir online, when the entire series left Netflix for HBO Max. Imagine, an entire generation of people who can only see Friends in syndication several times a day but not at their beck and call. Or, even worse, imagine having to buy Friends on DVD.

Over the last five years, large swaths of the internet has decided that there are really only two shows worth talking about: The Office and Friends. But with The Office reunion still up in the air--though, feeling more and more inevitable every day--fans will just have to suffer a Friends reunion. I guess it hasn't been their day, their week, their month or even their year.
