Social distancing has certainly taken its toll on humanity these past few months, but let's not forget the price our slimy aquatic friends have had to pay as well.
That's what the Sumida Aquarium in Japan wants us to keep in mind, as it recently went viral after imploring the world to please, facetime its eels.
緊急開催決定❗️❗️
異例の長期休館でいきものたち(特にチンアナゴ)が人間の存在を忘れ始めています💦だからお願いです。お家からチンアナゴにあなたの顔を見せてあげてください。

The eels, evidently, have not been visited for so long that they've begun to forget what humans. You can see why this story took off in the time of the coronavirus.
Naturally, people quickly commented on how they, trapped in their cages of various sizes, were eager to talk with the eels.

Evidently, the call for calls proved popular, as many would-be eel FaceTimers reported that the lines were too busy and they couldn't talk to the most popular fish in the world.
Tried to FaceTime the lonely aquarium eels in Japan but the lines are all busy. The eels are too popular to pick up my call now, and that’s good

I've been trying to facetime the eels at #SumidaAquarium in Japan but they aren’t picking up my calls! 😢 I hope that means they are getting lots of virtual visitors! pic.twitter.com/Igw1ztr0JS

If you want to try and get in touch with Japan's lonely eels, which you can through tomorrow, you will need to call one of these addresses on FaceTime:
helpchin001@gmail.com
helpchin002@gmail.com
helpchin003@gmail.com
helpchin004@gmail.com
helpchin005@gmail.com
If you get through, please don't make loud noises, as that could startle the eels.
