Kings Of Leon Will Release Their New Album As An NFT
Flammable sex enthusiasts Kings of Leon will be the first second band to release an album as an NFT, Rolling Stone reports.
The band will be selling two editions of their latest album, When You See Yourself, as an NFT. The first will be a deluxe edition of the record that will come with a vinyl record, a digital copy, and other digital goodies, and will sell for $50. The band will be selling the second edition, which will essentially be a lifetime ticket to all of their concerts, at auction.
The group is venturing forth into the daring release strategy in collaboration with tech startup Yellowhart.
"Over the last 20 years – two lost decades – we’ve seen the devaluation of music," said YellowHeart’s chief executive, Josh Katz. "It’s early stages, but in the future, I think this will be how people release their tracks. When they sell 100,000 at a dollar each, then they just made $100,000."
Kings of Leon will be the second musician to make a major splash in the NFT sphere; earlier this week, Grimes sold a collection of digital art for $6 million at an NFT auction.
Online reaction to the news was a cocktail of several types of bewilderment, as people were both baffled to hear the name "Kings of Leon" for the first time in a decade and attempted to understand what the hell is an NFT.
I literally understand none of this. None. Is this how my parents’ generation felt when reading about computers? https://t.co/Z77S9Losn3
