Komi Can't Communicate, one of the most-beloved—and memed—manga of the past six years, is getting an anime adaptation, and the first trailer is already out.

The series has an impressive pedigree behind it: it's being animated by OLM, the studio that animates Pokémon, and will be directed by Ayumu Watanabe and Kazuki Kawagoe.

The series follows the titular Komi-san, a beautiful but shy girl who has trouble communicating with her classmates, who in turn think she's stuck up. Her classmate Hitoshi Tadano sees through Komi's shy exterior and works to help her come out of her shell.

Fans have been clamoring for an anime adaptation of Komi-san for years; in 2020, the manga "topped a reader poll"https://www.anime-japan.jp/main/ajranking/ of series readers' wanted to see adapted. It has a release window of October 2021.
