Overview

Delta Anti-Union Flyer refers to a flyer created by Delta Airlines discouraging their employees from unionizing and suggesting that instead of unionizing, employees could spend the money they would pay for dues on a new video game system and games. The flyer, which is yet to be confirmed as a real piece of literature created by Delta, sparked outrage online.

Background

On May 9th, 2019, journalist Eoin Higgins[1] posted a picture of anti-union flyer allegedly created by Delta Airlines, which encourages employees to spend the money they would spend on union dues to instead purchase a video game system with "the latest hits." The tweet gained over 14,000 retweets and 54,000 likes.

Developments

After the tweet was posted, Twitter users quickly bashed Delta for the flyer. Twitter user @xoxogossipgita[2] tweeted the point that with a union, an employee could have more money to buy a console, and negotiate for less hours to play it, gaining over 1,100 retweets (shown below, left). User @mtsw[3] tweeted that they would no longer be using Delta (shown below, right).

Others made jokes about the tweet. User @mbreton67 tweeted an epic handshake meme saying both Delta and ProJared were in favor of "busting unions," referring to the ProJared cheating scandal that also broke that day (shown below, left). User @shocks posted a How Do You Do Fellow Kids meme about the controversy, gaining over 460 retweets (shown below, right).

Newsweek[4] wrote that it was unable to confirm that the poster is legitimate, but did receive comment from Higgins that it is legitimate and "is only available in areas that are inaccessible to the public." The website the flyer advertises is legitimate and argues reasons why Delta workers shouldn't unionize.[5]
