"This isn't about money. It's about sending a message" states @lidl.us, a TikTok account that appears to be on the warpath against Lidl, the multinational grocery store chain.

The account makes sure to clarify that it is not actually Lidl officially, but does seem to claim that it is run by employees or former staff of the company protesting a series of recent layoffs.

There is no official corporate account for Lidl in the United States on TikTok, so the parody account has taken on the mantle of the Lidl US name.

The account's dozens of posts feature meme characters overlaid on pictures of Lidl stores with text accusing the company of wrongdoing.

Commenters speculate that a former or current member of the social media or marketing team for Lidl runs the account, but who's exactly behind it is unknown. Many of them, however, are on board with the anti-corporate message.

Acts of employee resistance to mass layoffs have recently gone viral, with videos like a recent one of a Cloudflare employee's firing spreading widely online.

Given their ability to rapidly spread information to millions of users, social media platforms are increasingly becoming a place where employees vent and express frustration about professional life.

The @lidl.us account accuses Lidl of laying off employees in order to make itself appear more profitable to investors. It argues that Lidl and its executives made promises it did not keep to employees and gave no indication that layoffs were coming.

Some wondered if this was all an elaborate form of viral marketing, while others expressed solidarity with the workers.

Either way, the account is still posting up a storm and grabbing attention all around the internet today.
