man dies in stabbing over popeye's chicken sandwich
An altercation at a Maryland Popeyes left a 28-year-old man dead last night after a fight broke out while in line at the fast-food restaurant's popular chicken sandwich. Police say the conflict erupted when one customer accused the other of cutting the line.
The two men at the Oxon Hill, Maryland Popeyes argued over their place in a line specifically designated for the re-released chicken sandwich. When the fight spilled outside, one of the men stabbed the other. The victim died at the hospital an hour later.
Police say that the suspect is still at large and "have called on him to surrender," according to the Los Angeles Times
Released in August of this year, Popeyes chicken sandwich became a nationwide sensation, creating long lines with customers waiting hours for the sandwich. Its popularity caused to a nationwide shortage of the product that stretched nearly two months.
The death is the most extreme account of conflict and violence over the sandwiches. Since its surge in popularity, social media has been flooded with accounts and videos of fights at Popeyes over the sandwich.
