Evidently not content to only try and copy TikTok with Instagram shifting focus toward short-form video content (much to the chagrin of its users), Meta is now apparently going after Twitch's audience as well. A report from Business Insider says that Meta has been developing a Twitch-like service called "Super" for two years.

Initially, Super was supposed to be a competitor to Cameo, but plans have apparently changed in the years since the project was first reported.

According to a pitch deck provided to 100 creators to test Super, the product offers much of the same functionality as Twitch, allowing creators to monetize their streams and viewers to donate via a tier system. The deck also highlights a "sponsorship" model, where brands can pay influencers to heavily feature their products in streams.

Perhaps oddly for a Meta product, it appears Super has no known integration with Facebook and Instagram at the moment. According to the website, the only cross-platform functionality with Super is with TikTok, as creators can choose to simulcast to Meta's apparent competitor.

As word of Meta's foray into Twitch's model spread, the expectations expressed on social media so far weren't largely high. Despite Twitch's numerous controversies with its biggest stars, competitors to Twitch haven't been able to dethrone the streaming platform in the past.

Platforms like YouTube gaming and the late Mixer, which controversially folded its userbase into Facebook Gaming two years ago, were able to attract some of Twitch's biggest stars but mostly failed to make a significant impact on Twitch's dominance.

Meta's Facebook also attempted to encroach on Twitch in the past with Facebook Gaming, but that similarly never took off. It's also unknown if the Facebook Gaming platform will be folded into Super when it launches.

At the moment, there are no definitive plans for Super's release, but the fact that its testers have spoken freely about it and provided the pitch deck to the media suggests Meta is at least attempting to generate some buzz around the product.
