Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 81, has once again raised alarms about his health by appearing to freeze while speaking to the press, just one month after he suffered a near-identical episode in July.
In the video captured by NBC affiliate WLWT earlier today, McConnell froze for over 30 seconds after a reporter asked him about whether he would run for reelection in 2026. After an uncomfortable silence, aides led him away.
BREAKING NEWS: Sen. Mitch McConnell appearing to have another scary episode in the media gaggle in Covington today. Aides had to step in to help him out and repeat questions. He was eventually lead away. We'll have the full video on @WLWT pic.twitter.com/q9ex5MHxLV

The moment was eerily similar to the July 26th incident when McConnell froze while talking to reporters, which also ended with an aide taking him away. At the time, people speculated on whether the Kentucky Senator was suffering from a stroke. His office brushed away questions about his health, and he was able to return to the press conference later. McConnell also returned to the press conference after a brief break in this instance.
It's unknown what health maladies McConnell could be suffering from, though some wonder if it is connected to a concussion he suffered in May.
The viral video led to increased calls for McConnell and fellow Senator Dianne Feinstein, 90, to resign, while others called for term and age limits for politicians.
The terms elder abuse and retire also trended on Twitter / X as the video spread across the platform.
