Claims by the American Muckrackers PAC about the past of Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-CO), including allegations of financial fraud, abortions and sex work, have caused a stir online today.

American Muckrakers, which also spearheaded the campaign of leaks against Congressman Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) earlier this year, laid out a story about how Boebert purportedly got into politics that credits Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and an unnamed Koch family member whom she supposedly met through SugarDaddyMeet.com.

Allegedly, Boebert worked as an unlicensed paid escort because she was bankrupt and was hired by a wealthy client living in Aspen, Colorado. This client then introduced her to Senator Cruz, who purportedly “encouraged” her to run for office. Public filings show that Cruz donated over $200,000 to Boebert’s 2020 race, and American Muckrakers alleges that he also provided advice and assistance in raising money from others.

In the same press release, American Muckrakers also alleges that Boebert, who has strongly supported limiting abortion rights, has had two abortions, including one at Planned Parenthood. These claims, however, remain unsubstantiated at this time.

In addition to the more salacious accusations of sex work, American Muckrackers states that Boebert was allegedly involved in a drunk-driving ATV accident two weeks before the election in 2020 and sought to cover it up, uses political donations for personal expenses and may be under investigation for tax fraud by the state of Colorado’s Department of Revenue.

Boebert is a highly controversial far-right Congresswoman who has pushed conspiracy theories about vaccines and faced calls for censure because of comments she made about Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN).

The group seeking to unseat her, American Muckrakers, also sought to unseat Cawthorn last year, a similarly contentious and conspiracy-adjacent first-term Republican Congressperson. Last spring, American Muckrakers posted a series of videos and photos of Cawthorn engaging in bizarre and unseemly behavior, contributing to his loss in May 17th’s primary. Boebert’s primary is coming up on June 28th.

American Muckrakers has cited two anonymous sources for its claims about the alleged abortions and escort work Boebert took part in and included screenshots of text conversations with one of the sources in its press release about the claims.

That didn’t stop users on Twitter from speculating about Boebert, however. Some suggested that she secured the support of Cruz through blackmail following an affair.

A number of left-wing posters strode a line between accepting Boebert’s alleged sex work and abortions while condemning her hypocrisy in opposing sex workers and supporting the overturning of Roe v. Wade while in office.

Some online also criticized the PAC for its muck-slinging.

Others, including famous fake-news memer @JUNIPER, joked about the credulity of people wanting to believe the Boebert story.

Posters also pointed to other past controversies involving Boebert and her family, including a lewd exposure conviction that Boebert’s husband faced in 2004 for an incident where she was present.
