Social media users of all political stripes are expressing concern and relief for Senator Ted Cruz's 14-year-old daughter Caroline after reports say she is "doing okay" after being hospitalized for self-inflicted stab wounds.

On Monday, police were called to Ted Cruz's home and reported that a 14-year-old girl had been taken to the hospital for self-harm. Though their report did not explicitly mention Caroline, many were able to deduce from the age of the victim and the location that it was purportedly her.

Representatives for the Cruz family called the situation a "family matter" and asked for privacy. They later confirmed that their daughter is okay.

In late 2021, Caroline Cruz became the subject of TikTok discourse after viewers there said she looked "miserable" in the family's Christmas card. She later posted a TikTok explaining the pros and cons of being Ted Cruz's daughter in which she also mentioned she disagreed with most of his views.

In a later TikTok, she said she was bisexual but had not yet told her family. She also expressed she thought her father would probably be "cool with it." Her TikTok went private shortly after, leading to speculation about whether the Cruz family had forced her to do so.

After news of her hospitalization hit social media yesterday, commenters from both political sides expressed well-wishes for Caroline, with many on the left writing that no family, regardless of what they represent politically, should have to go through such a terrifying ordeal.

His daughter is not him and she is her own person.
She needs support and the family deserves privacy.
Far too many families know what it's like to have a child attempt suicide or die by it. No one should have to know that pain.
