The 'Bored Ape Yacht Club' Appears To Have A Ryder Ripps Problem After 'RR/BAYC' Outsold Them On OpenSea For First Time

Conceptual artist Ryder Ripps has been posting to Twitter and Instagram about his parody Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT project called "RR/BAYC," which outsold the original this week for a 24-hour period on the crypto art marketplace OpenSea.
Since January, Ripps has been an avid opponent of the BAYC. In an interview with Know Your Meme earlier this year, Ripps spoke out about some alleged racist and anti-semitic ties linked to the NFT project. Though still unproven, he cited similarities between their logo and Nazi symbolism, as well as their use of Hawaiian shirts linked to the contentious Boogaloo movement.
On May 14th, Ripps posted his first tweet about RR/BAYC that included his conceptual solution to stopping the Bored Ape Yacht Club's cultural momentum. He stated within it, "if anyone wants a RR/BAYC ill mint you one for 0.1 ETH send me the number."
By the end of May, multiple Twitter users posted screenshots of their transactions, as well as their reasoning behind backing Ripps' project over the original. So many apparently bought in that by May 16th, RR/BAYC surpassed the all-time number of NFTs sold of any collection on Foundation.

Bought a RR BAYC because he’s an artist I support. @ryder_ripps
The conversation he’s started goes above the heads of the “WAGMI” crowd.

Towards the end of May, higher-ups at Yuga Labs started taking action against Ripps' aggressive counter-project. They filed a DMCA take-down request for RR/BAYC but ultimately failed.
The victory proved fruitful for Ripps, who publicized it on his Instagram. He also stated in the long-form description that since it started, RR/BAYC had purportedly made over $1 million.
Around the same time as Apefest in late June 2022, Ripps again publicized RR/BAYC on his Instagram, claiming with the aid of OpenSea screenshots that his project had outsold BAYC in total sales for a 24-hour period. Despite appearing impressive, the achievement was relatively easy to accomplish given the thousands of newly minted items paired with many buyers trying to flip them.
Soon after posting his accomplishment yesterday, RR/BAYC received another takedown request from Yuga Labs on OpenSea. This time, they were successful, and RR/BAYC was taken down. As of June 22nd, RR/BAYC is only available on Foundation and the conflict has yet to be addressed by Ripps.
