Tony Hawk Celebrates That He Was Spared After Encounter With Wesley Snipes, Referencing Viral Meme

Skateboarding legend and adept poster Tony Hawk celebrated his newfound lease on life after a fateful encounter with Wesley Snipes at the Oscars last Sunday.

To be clear, there isn't actually any beef between the two. Instead, Hawk was referencing one of the most famous memes of his career. Several years ago, a Twitter user posted one of the premier iterations of the Wesley Snipes Crying template, captioning the tweet, "When the race war is happening and I gotta kill Tony Hawk." Hawk, ever game to meme on himself, replied, "I appreciate the hesitation, though."

The exchange has been something of a running gag in Black Twitter ever since, and Hawk's amiable encounter with Snipes at the Oscars brought the meme full circle, much to the enjoyment of the website.

Hawk was at the Oscars last night to present a tribute to James Bond, along with Shaun White and Kelly Slater. Media outlets covering the Oscars hypothesized their inclusion was done as an attempt to boost interest in the Oscars, which have had flagging ratings for several years. Of course, the trio was completely overshadowed by another event that took place at the Oscars, but in a night defined by conflict, at least we can know that peace reigned supreme at another celebrity confrontation.
