Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been the subject of this week's sports discourse after it was announced that he tested positive for COVID-19 and would sit out Sunday's game.

In August of this year, Rodgers told reporters he'd been "immunized" to COVID-19, which at the time gave people the impression that he had been vaccinated, as the NFL had been pushing teams and athletes to get vaccinated against the virus.

Rodgers' diagnosis was not a breakthrough case, however. It turns out, Rodgers was not immunized at all. When Rodgers said he was immunized, he apparently meant he had been undergoing "homeopathic treatments" to boost his immunity to COVID-19. He appealed to the NFL to consider him vaccinated. The NFL did not.

For many, this looked as though Rodgers had lied to the world, unlike NBA star Kyrie Irving, who has been vocal about not receiving the vaccine.

Things snowballed Friday after Rodgers appeared on Pat McAfee's talk show to defend himself, and it appears he's dug himself into a deeper hole.

Rodgers seemed to run through a checklist of anti-vaccination talking points in his interview, saying he has consulted with Joe Rogan about how to give himself "the best immunity," that he is taking Ivermectin, which has not been approved as a COVID-19 treatment, and that he is now being targeted by the "woke mob." All of this combined made him the sudden center of mockery on social media.

It is unclear if or when Rodgers will play again this season. If he does come back and the Packers suffer in his absence, he will have more than the "woke mob" to worry about.
