Between vaccination lotteries, free beer, and free doughnuts, it's clear that national and local American governments, as well as major corporations, are doing everything in their power to get the country vaccinated against COVID-19. Washington State just took that one step further with their "Joints for Jabs" campaign.

In Washington state, adults who receive a COVID vaccination will be able to receive a free, pre-rolled joint at a marijuana store after they get their vaccine. The promotion is effective immediately and runs through July 12th.

Washington joins Arizona as another state that is running a free-weed promotion as part of the vaccination initiative. The federal government has encouraged states to get creative in encouraging the vaccine, as the rate of vaccinations has slowed dramatically since mid-April.

Online, people reacted to the heightening of vaccine incentives by imagining how far it could go. It also reminded many of just how far the country has come with its attitudes towards cannabis, once highly illegal and now largely decriminalized. The irony and hypocrisy of the government offering a free joint when people are still in jail for marijuana-related offenses weren't lost on many either.

According to NPR, 58% of Washington's population has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine.
