We can nuke you off the face of the earth yet we owe more money than we can print to China! We are truly the great bipolar nation!

See, this just goes to show how hard it can be to really insult Americans. Both the German and Soviet statements were meant to read like sick burns (implying general incompetence in managing and running a military) but the American response is to either take the backhanded compliment, to take perverse pride in being annoying or frustrating to other nations, or just let it roll off their back.
