I heard a rumor once that Sony did contact Square about a Final Fantasy rep, specifically Cloud, and they said “Lightning or nothing”.

Given that Playstation Allstars was made during the dark times when Square was dead-set on making Lightning the new face of Final Fantasy, fans’ actual opinions of her and her game be damned, this seems entirely plausible.
