He who controls the stuffing, controls the universe!

Socialism wasn't even a thing until the early 19th century. While it is true that they experimented with a socialistic scheme with property for the first few years, and it is also true that they later abandoned it because people like to own stuff, conservatives keep trying to import way too much modern politics into it. They also try to claim that it caused all the hardship they faced because "socialism makes people lazy" and that removing it made them celebrate the first Thanksgiving. THAT'S where it goes into bullshit territory.
