Story of what happened to Project M (self.ss8pM) Found this online on another forum: The StoryAbout 2 weeks ago from now, we received news about Project M from what I only know as a "very reliable source" (The only people in the DT who know are one else was allowed to know due to reasons). They contacted and actually called suggesting to him that PM should cease development due to a potential lawsuit. According t e source, Nintendo has s and has been preparing to strike at us with a lawsuit if or when we would have fairly close attention t produced more content. This means Nintendo would've directly cut the b------- and just skipped to sueing us rather as y complicated, as ring aren't simple and also heavily favor the person or company who originally owned the content. We could receive 15k from a single strike of infringement for every line in every changelist for PM, along with many other things that we have changed in the game that aren't strictly on a changelist. This can go all the way from adding knuckles to something as simple as changing sonic to have colors like Green and Red. As an example, Sega could've given their Nintendo to use for Brawl and been like "Ok, here's sonic. You can use him, but you have to follow X, X, and X in order for him to be in your game. Making his skin color Green probably wasn't on their list of things that they could do which is also why brawl and s4 sonic have s----- ass costumes where the only thing they change is the color on his wristband and shoes. This essentially means that if we had released 3.61, 4.0, or any other build/form of content relating to Project M, we would run the risk of oweing them approximately bankrupt). The way Nintendo would've handled t most to least important. It is to be assumed that they would have started with Project Leaders and Art teanm llion dollars (aka causing whoever was affected by this to go lawsuit would have likely been by targeting PMDT members from represent a huge portion of the PR for Project M and the Art team members created most of the content in the game. After that, it's kind of messy since it's really hard to blame which people since some members either balanced the game and promoted/created little content whatsoever such as most Play-testers or inactive members. Should they target members who haven't been apart of the project for a very long time, or people like me who're minors and have only contributed to the game in the form of balancing conversations? Or what about coders, can they copyright the code in their videogame? I'm not 100% sure, The PM Jedi Council (group of leaders in PM. Has people li long time and ultimately decided that the source was way too reliable and that we had to stop the production of PM since lives were essentially at stake due to doing bankrupt. I heard about this last Wednesday and the entire PMDT had a good-bye thread where we signed off to eachother and shared our memories over working on the Project. The entire time I made vague-emo posts on twitter and in squander squad, I was trying to hint at my minor depression I hope it makes a bit more sense as to how the announcement went down. I personally think the way we phrased it is b------- and we essentially cheated out our fanbase. We claimed there was no C&D struck against us, and while we're not technically "lying", we're certainly not telling the truth. The way I think about it is we were not C&D'd directly by Nintendo, but we were essentially C&D'd by the "reliable source" since we could've gone straight to lawsuit if we continued with Project M. Our decision was very obviously based upon legal threats/reasons and we tried to play it off like it wasn't even though our blogpost basically said "Hey, we're shutting down Project M but it's not for legal reasons. Here's our lawyer and we took down the website and all the DLs, bye!". I'm very upset that I couldn't tell an se guys are the people I love and trust Why did Nintendo want to throw the lawsuit at you guys now?- Nintendo has known about us since pre-3.02. If Nintendo truly wanted to, they could've shut down the Project way back in 2.5-2.6 days, but they specifically chose not to because we weren't a threat to them. All Project M has done is encourage people to play smash bros by buying a Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. For the past 2-3 years now they've been intentionally ignoring us and letting us do our thing, but there's something recently that bothered them and made them have to strike. Why they chose NOW rather than any other time is something I don't have a 100% definite answer to but I have 2 guesses Whenever Square Enix gave Nintendo Cloud as their IP, Square Enix was like "Hey Nintendo, we want you t represent Cloud in smash 4 but don't feel as if we can trust you with our IP since you can't even protect your own points at Project Mt. Nintendo might've avoided the lawsuit for as long as possible, and they were directly forced to do so in order for Smash 4 to grow 2. We will find out in the Smash-related Nintendo direct comin that Knuckles or Isaac won the Character Vote contest, and they likely had to shut us down as a result due t direct competition and/or more issues with IPs. What does this mean for 3.61?- 3.61 is a tricky situation. I asked Oracle about having it at TLOC events and it's looking sort of iffy. He would love to have it there, but he's concerned with legal issues and the fact that other scenes may not have 3.61. If the build were "leaked" out into the public and everyone unanimously agree'd upon it then it would be possible but that isn't something I can control so we will just have to wait and see. e PMDT going to work on a new game like they implied in the blogpost?- Uhh... sort of? We made a new slack channel in an attempt to make a "new game", but for now it's basically a hold over and has all the PMDT members sort of talking about random ideas for a game with no real cohesion. Even if we were to get the funding to make our own game, it'd take a year before we have anything even close to representable so Il'd just go ahead and say No to this question for now What the hell is that 4.0 leak with Knuckles/Lyn?- There's s guy named who is an ex-PMDT member. We news was announced to the entire DT since we knew he'd leak the f--- out of he doesn't listen to the voice of reason and he often throws announcemen incredibly dense person an I temper tantrums over stupid s---, specifically his opinions on balance i coder for the DT, not a playtester). He would either threaten to leak things or ACTUALLY leak things whenever we told him to stop being an idiot, so we kind of knew this would happen when we shut down PM. The build he leaked is a e files we have on the PMDT file hosting server so his are outdated. He also does not have all of the 3.61 files, so he has a s----- version of Awakening Roy and no updated ZSs models So... what does that mean for the public and for the DT?- Well, most people already knew about Knuckles and L so I'm not really concerned about that part, I'm more concerned about the fact that they actually have the files. Knowing about them is way different than literally having the files, so myself and most of the PMDT are very upset at what has happened tonight. His knuckles build is kind of outdated, but it's still really disappointing that the public has This is also concerning for the DT in the fact that we wanted to strictly stay AWAY from posting Project M content, but now it looks like the entirety of the public has all of our content. The situation is really scary because if the "reliable source" is correct, we're still potentially f----- since an ex-PMDT member released f------ Knuckles under the name of Project M and that's exactly what we tried to avoid What about r/newPMDT?- Lol that subreddit is b------- Without those tools, it would be incredibly difficult to make progress on PM, and that's not even factoring in how f------ retarded most people would be in a public PMDT. Strong Bad made a smashboards post addressing it and specifically stated that the newPMDT could directly affect the old PMDT and that they should stop asap since it could create legal issues. Either way, it's not happening and I wouldn't worry about it Is wavedash games involved with the PMDT disbanding?- Lol that is b-------. The story I explained is what actually e PMDT has a bunch of people and tools that only we own. o work with WD games. Whoever spread that around and made a f------ twitter for it is an What is happening to PROJECT MEME?!? I cannot release Project Meme publicly anymore due to the game basically being Project M content, but I'll attempt to work on it in my free time and we can still play it in DFW whenever I make r bui Bu mentioned?- I'll let you guys play them if you o give you guys the files t be pretty dangerous if one of you nimrods decided to leak it. I'm not saying I don't trust you guys, but I'd rather have you guys play it at my place since thats the safest alternative where both of us can be ha ppy ngs f Project M dies off, I plan on making my own version of Project M 4.0 with Knuckles (very likely no-_ due to requiring a ton of art team members to dean up her animations), some of my own balance changes, and 3.61 changes so that way if we wanted to play Project M at a smashfest or just in general we could play that instead. I could never release it to the public, but I could just pass it around to all of the DFW You guys are like a f------ family, all of the DFW PM scene is essentially another home to me. I love you guys, and I hope we make what we can out of Project M 3.6. I trust you guys to not leak any of this, as we're all SS brothers and I want to still see you guys coming out to PM events if and when you can. <3
