Any game that does not have a sequel, spinoff, or competitive value (leaderboards, multiplayer, etc.) eventually stops being popular. That does not necessarily mean you will forget it, or that it's any less of a good game just because it doesn't stay on the top forever.
I still remember The Stanley Parable fondly, even though it's rarely mentioned anymore. I very much still love Shovel Knight despite most of the hype having died out already.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is, I don't think a game should be judged by how long you can remember it or how long it can stay relevant, but rather by how much fun it gave you when you played it. I'm sure there are many games I have forgotten that I would love to play again because they were fun, and there are plenty of games that I remember and yet dislike.
