Yeah, I don't think that the Gems understand the problems that child soldiers raises.
And I think that from what Pearl said in the ending of Sworn To The Sword, it seems like she fully intends (or is at least very willing) to train Steven in swordfighting again, and I really hope she does train him, mostly so that he can get a greater offensive chance during fights.

Yes, but we're still wondering why Steven doesn't focus very much on training when he has good reasons to, and when the Gems are shown to be more than willing to teach him.
