Well… the other character (Kashima, from Kantai Collection), is a training cruiser (teacher) that is just a huggable puppy in-game but that due to popularity saw a huge surge of fanart, mostly the rule 34 kind. Then got sent to Lawson on a cross-promotion thing (and got even more r34 fanart).
tl;dr, just a reference to the last character that got ruined by the interwebs.
