The early days of the game were far more like the expectation. The player base used to be pretty chill, especially before the level cap increase.

Any online game only gets more and more competitive over time. Same happened to Smash Bros. 4 today, where casual players are becoming less and less frequent. This happens because only hardcore fans of any given game stick for the longest, and selfsame fans are the ones that "git gud" as well.
