This is an interesting read, though it does also highlight some of the differences between an organized military and rebels united under a cause. Like a lot of movements, Rose's rebellion may have been attractive to different gems for different reasons, some which might begin to conflict with one another. It's kind of like any movement where it's all too easy to see the part of it that you like and latch onto it for that, only to find that your ideals don't quite square with those of the leadership. On the other side, the movement's leaders find themselves in a situation where they have a bunch of people marching under their banner and doing some questionable stuff, and it's up to them to simply keep marching even though you're letting your message be tarnished by bad apples in your ranks or put your foot down and risk losing some followers.
