Horseshoe theory would be the theory that the far right and far left (your 'actual bigots' and SJW's respectively) have more in common with each-other than with those in the supposed middle. Both want race based laws to promote their agenda and feel those who disagree with them should be silenced and harassed.

Think of Hitler vs Stalin. Hitler was far right, Stalin far left, but both were mass-murdering fuckhead fascists. While they championed diametrically opposed ideas, one can be excused for not noticing many differences in their end results.

Nothing has changed recently. Racists run the spectrum from dumb-as-shit to genius. Fun trivia, many captured high ranking Nazi officers at the Nuremberg trials were genius IQ. SJW's run the same intelligence spectrum. In both cases, the stupids tend to be louder, and people tend to forgive the idiots of 'their side' while believing the stupids of the other side are truly representative of the population. Its just the human condition I"m afraid.
