See for all of the supernatural and heavily-visual based anime that get live action adaptations, I'm surprised they don't do stuff like Monster (which has two different adaptations in production limbo, a movie and a series directed by Guillermo del Toro) more often. They don't need to push the envelope of special effects, and in the case of a series could really do the anime/manga's character development justice. Not to mention Monster in particular is set in Germany with a Japanese main character, as long as they casted him appropriately you wouldn't have people crying about whitewashing.

It didn't ruin Oldboy (at least not on the first try)
