The Nostalgia Critic discussed this. He mentioned that professional critics have to watch more movies than the average moviegoer, so they're more likely to notice the cliches and beats that movie markers rely on. As such, when something genuinely new and interest happens along, even if it's bad, it might emotionally sway them. The average moviegoer, however, would likely get swept up in simple crowd pleasing movies more easily.
