Acronyms are pronounced the way that they sound like in the acronym without regard to what the letters represent. Some examples of acronyms that are pronounced differently than their words are: UNICEF (the C stands for Children) and JPEG (the P stands for Photographic) Argument 2- The inventor said it is a softG To paraphrase the Dude, that's just his opinion man. Sure it might mean more than my opinion, but the English language does not have official arbiters for pronunciation. Most words are pronounced differently now than they were when they were originally created, that's just the way it works. There are many examples of words with the same pronunciation but different meanings. In this case, the context makes it very clear which word one is saying.
