A well maintained nuclear reactor is actually very safe and much more reliable than solar or wind which rely on the weather and and such aren't a good source of consistent energy. In the history of nuclear energy there have been very few actual accidents and those accidents are attributed to shoddy construction and human error. If nuclear power codes were enforced and safety regulations were followed the chances of accident are very very small.
