I like the theory I read on /v/ that it's less a metaphor for SJWs and more a metaphor for companies trying to run badly-designed damage control after it's already too late. To quote him, "There's a real life precedent of corporations using progressivism as a veil to mask their bullshit, it's the same as EA calling people bigots for giving them the Golden Poo."
