I still don’t see why so many people want Geno in the game

At the end of it, I've found that Mario RPG was an overrated RPG for me. Sure, there are good moments and the music is damn good, but I've found myself forgetting about it after I stopped playing and, really, even the good moments I started to forget about. And I found the combat to be tedious and bare-bones with its mechanics. It may have something to do with Pokemon and Mario and Luigi being my primary RPGs when I was a kid, but comparing Mario and Luigi to RPG is something completely laughable to me.
