More like those who weren't raised properly saw feminism as a platform to preach on and bastardized it to suit their own goals, knowing that any criticisms towards it would mean that the ones criticizing would be labeled as 'sexist' at the drop of a hat and would be socially blacklisted thanks to such a brand.
