I personally think this is less about some hidden pedophiliac patriarchal tendencies (Check the channel before downvoting me for bringing this up without prompt, it is not without prompt) and more about people who want to feel like they are the hero saving their love interest, even if it is something as little as showing a cute girl the world you know as she's completely lost by herself. Same thing with the girls who want a man who is handsome but emotionally dead, so they can save him with their emotions.
Both are about "saving" a person who is lacking some life needed skill that only the hero/heroine can provide.
