People went crazy for the 2DS, there is people in third world countries that buy nintendo consoles just for pokemon. I'm not even exaggerating, Pokemon and other portable JRPGs get huge traction on south america and poor asian nations, SONY sells more stationary consoles, but counting with portables the norm in these places is often a PC and one Nintendo portable, it helps that portable systems are easier to crack up so you can run games for free and emulators

The issue is: Due to the huge tax on tech that these countries receive, you have to cut a lot of features so you can meet the right price to reach the masses. Nintendo launching new versions of their portables between every two years since the GBA is sort of a trick in creating "accessability" to different social classes, because if a console has several different variations in the market at the same time they keep circulating, as every version's price goes up and down, people keep selling and trading for downgraded or upgraded versions depending on how much money thay have at the moment and what games they want to play, unlike rich countries where they just upgrade for the better and newer version
