About

A Polyester Edit is a style of video edit focusing on a specific movie or TV character, similar to a fancam, in which scenes from their movies or shows rapidly play in the background as the character is shown in different poses. Many polyester edits focus on Marvel or other comic-book characters.

Polyester edits first started appearing on TikTok as early as October 2025 and were popularized in July 2026 after a Spider-Man edit by user @foryouamvv went viral. The name "polyester edit" is a derisive title used to suggest that the edits are low-quality and low-effort, likening them to cheaply produced garments made of polyester. In late July and early August 2026, numerous Backrooms polyester edits then spread on TikTok.

Origin

It is unconfirmed who started the editing style known as "Polyester edits." One of the earliest known examples was posted on October 17th, 2025, by TikToker[1] @jjeditzfilms, gaining over 5.7 million views in nine months.

The edit focuses on the MCU version of the character Tony Stark, Iron Man (played by actor Robert Downey Jr.), and shows him posing in the foreground while scenes from the Iron Man movies rapidly play in the background.

Spread

This style of edit continued to spread in late 2025 as Polyester edits became more popularized on TikTok.

For example, on November 16th, 2025, TikToker[2] @foryouamvv posted a video edit where footage from Spider-Man movies rapidly flashes by in the background as different Spider-Man poses are shown in the foreground. The edit gained over 4.4 million views in eight months and experienced a boost in the algorithm in July 2026.

Polyester edits experienced a surge in popularity in July 2026. Many of these edits make fun of the format of the edits, with some directly including or referencing the viral Spider-Man edit.

On July 16th, 2026, TikToker[3] @useruxia8ob7j1 posted a video making fun of one of these types of edits that uses Iron Man footage, calling it a "100% polyester ahh edit," garnering over 3.5 million views in five days. This video popularized and potentially coined the term "polyester edit" for the genre.

On July 19th, 2026, TikToker[5] @shrillcools posted a parody, purposefully low-quality polyester edit that is based on Iron Man, garnering over 1.5 million views in two days.

Backrooms Polyester Edits

As the trend continued spreading on TikTok into late July and early August 2026, many users began creating and sharing polyester edits of the 2026 horror film Backrooms.

For instance, on July 23rd, 2026, TikToker[6] @solanankico posted one of the earliest examples of the Backrooms polyester edit trend, garnering over 150,200 likes and 1,300 comments in roughly two weeks.
